Solar PV
Free energy from the sun
Photovoltaic (PV) panels are one of the best ways of generating ‘localised’ electricity for use in domestic homes, schools, hospitals and commercial premises.
For buildings with large roof areas they provide an opportunity to not only generate electricity for local use but also to gain an income from exporting to the national grid.
PV panels are robust and designed for a life at least 20 years and can be fitted to almost any roof, with a south facing aspect being the best for electricity generation.
Feed in Tariffs
All owners of PV systems which are constructed using MCS approved equipment and installers can be registered with your electricity provider under the Feed-in-Tariff (FiT) system and receive an income for the electricity generated.
Through the FiT scheme owners of PV system will receive an income for all of the electricity they generate for a period of 25 years. The tariff varies from some 41.6p/kW hour for smaller retro-fit schemes to 31.4p/kW hour for the larger arrays, with
all tariffs being index linked.
Off-setting mains electricity charges that would otherwise be incurred and exporting unused electricity at 3p/kW hour can provide additional savings.
