Air Source Heat Pump and Solar Photovoltaic (PV) Installation, WDS Green Energy Offices Cardiff
WDS Green Energy are a growing renewable energy system solution provider and as such, in the summer of 2012, had outgrown their previous office property and were looking for larger premises with room to expand.
WDS Green Energy found a new building that suited their needs however there were no renewable technologies installed in the property and WDS Green Energy decided that this could be remedied prior to them moving into the building.
The staff kitchen area needed a bit of a spruce up anyway and so during this renovation WDS Green Energy installed an air source heat pump which would take care of the heating and hot water requirements of the building and the southwest facing roof would be the ideal space to add an array of PV panels to generate the electricity to run the new heat pump system.
WDS Green Energy Ltd, are ‘practising what they preach’ and have installed a 3.91kW solar Photovoltaic panel (PV) system on the roof space and, despite initially being on mains gas, have replaced the heating system with a Dimplex LA 11 AS air source heat pump with ‘smart rads’. The heat pump is able to provide all the heating and hot water requirements of the building.
WDS Green Energy new offices now showcase a working heat pump system and so prospective clients may visit us and see a heat pump system in action and judge for themselves just how quiet heat pumps can be.
WDS Green Energy have reduced their bills significantly, in fact the income generated from the solar PV system almost covers the cost of the electricity required for the building.
WDS Green Energy spend approximately £975 annually on electricity (gas is no longer used due to the heat pump installation) and the solar photovoltaic panels on the roof are eligible for payments under the Feed in Tariff scheme (FiTs) which is approximately £883 annually. This leaves a shortfall of only £92 per year. That is less than £8 a month on electricity to run the entire office!
