Renewable Heat Premium Payment Scheme

The Renewable Heat Premium Payment (RHPP) scheme has now finished.
It finished on the 30th March 2014.
It has been replaced by the Renewable Heat Incentive (RHI).

Renewable Heat Premium Payment Scheme

The Renewable Heat Premium Payment was a Government backed grant scheme aimed at domestic renewable technology installations. A one off grant voucher was issued that helped towards the initial cost of the renewable installation. This grant did NOT exclude you from the RHI scheme, as its costs will be recovered from any RHI payments you receive.

Eligible Technologies and Tariff Levels

The renewable heat incentive qualifying technologies and voucher rates are shown in the table below

  • Frequently asked questions

  • Am I Eligible?
To obtain the RHPP grant voucher you must meet the following criteria:

    • You must own the property or have permission from the owner
    • You must have a green deal advice report- GDAR
    • The Property is not connected to mains gas (solar thermal is the exception and all properties are eligible)
    • Basic energy measures are installed i.e. loft insulation to 250mm
    • The Installer and Product must be MCS registered

Can I install the heating system before applying for a voucher?
Yes, but please check system eligibility before applying for the voucher.

  • Can I apply for the voucher before I have the technology installed?
Yes, vouchers can be applied for in advance, up to three months for solar thermal applications and up to six months in advance for heat pump application.

  • How will any payment be made?
For heat pump installations you will receive 80% of the voucher value when a valid claim is submitted. The final 20% will be received when the energy saving trust receives confirmation that the installation is ‘meter ready’ or where the system is not ‘meter ready’ the final 20% will be received at the end of the scheme.
Solar Thermal applications are not subject to metering therefore 100% of the voucher value will be paid when a valid application is submitted.

  • How does the RHPP Voucher Level affect those who wish to apply for the Renewable Heat Incentive ?
If you have received payment through the RHPP scheme you can still apply for the domestic RHI, providing you meet the RHI’s eligibility criteria. The amount of money received through the RHI would be reduced by the value of the RHPP grant, to avoid overcompensation.

  • I’d like to apply for a Householder Voucher Grant, am I required do undertake a Green Deal Assessment?
All applications after the 20th May 2013 are required to have a Green Deal Assessment.

  • Can I apply for more than one technology?
Yes. You can claim an RHPP grant for each eligible technology however each technology will require a separate application to be submitted.
You cannot however apply for the same technology at the same address more than once, even if more than one system is being installed.

  • If I make a successful application to the scheme and receive a voucher, how long is it valid for?
RHPP vouchers have individual expiry dates upon them, this is some 3 months for solar thermal and up to 6 months for heat pumps.
No vouchers are accepted after the expiry date so please ensure your voucher and the required proofs reach the energy saving trust before the expiry deadline. We recommend your application is send recorded delivery to ensure it arrives before the expiry deadline.

  • What makes an installation ‘meter ready?
An installation is classed as meter ready when sufficient space has been left around the pipework for monitoring equipment to be installed.

  • My installation is ‘meter ready’. When will I receive my rebate?
Once a valid claim has been received by the RHPP team 80% of the voucher value will be issued. Your details will then be passed on to the Building Research Establishment (BRE) for assessment of meter readiness.
If your installation is chosen to have a meter fitted then the final 20% of the voucher value will be paid once the meter starts to provide data.
If your installation is not chosen to have a meter fitted then the final 20% of the voucher value will be paid once BRE have notified the Energy saving trust.

  • My installation is not ‘meter ready’. When will I receive my rebate?
Once a valid claim has been received by the RHPP team 80% of the voucher value will be issued. The final 20% of the voucher value will be paid once the scheme ends in March 2014
